On herbs harvested in the same year
A short note on a sourcing detail most practitioners do not think about often, but which shapes clinical response more than most realise.
Freshness matters in herbal practice. Not in the way a vegetable wilts and loses nutrients. Slower than that, and more particular. Plant compounds shift in the year after harvest. Some volatiles dissipate. Some constituents oxidize. Some change form in ways that change clinical effect.
The herb in question today is Du Yi Wei.

The images above show the difference. The color, the texture, the visible character of the plant material, all different. The clinical material is different too.
Du Yi Wei is one of the most powerul pain-moving herbs in Tibetan medicine. The tradition uses it for physical pain and for what Tibetan medicine calls karmic blockages, the deeper layers of holding that physical pain often sits on top of. It removes dampness. It moves blood. It penetrates deeply into the body.
This is why our ethnobotanical team travels to the Tibetan plateau every year, in the harvest season, to bring back the freshest and most potent Du Yi Wei available. Not in batch lots from a warehouse. Fresh from the year's growing.
Du Yi Wei lives in two products in our line. The Tibetan Foot Soaks, where it works transdermally and through inhalation in warm water. The Ao Yi Herbal Tea, where it works internally through digestion. Both carry the same year's harvest.
What I recommend. If you treat patients with the layered pain that does not respond to surface interventions, the old injuries, the chronic patterns, the patient who has tried everthing, Du Yi Wei is worth knowing about. The Foot Soaks meet the patient at the periphery. The Ao Yi Tea works from the inside. Stock the one that matches how your patient experiences the pain. Stock both for the patient who needs both.
