A note for White Dew
A short letter for 白露, White Dew. The first morning the air sharpens enough to leave dew on the grass at sunrise.
The dew lies white on the grass at first light.
The air sharpens, and the body feels it before the eye sees it.
The wild geese call as they head south.
The yang descends, and what was rising now turns back inward.
The first true sign of the season's depth.
A reflective note
Dryness arrives now in the lungs, and on the skin, and at the back of the throat. The patient who carried damp through summer often finds the first cool morning bringing a dry cough or a tight feeling under the collarbone. The body is changing its mode, and the Lung is the organ feeling the shift first.
A body practice for the season
White foods to moisten. Pear, lily bulb, white sesame, a small bowl of congee with apple in the morning. Less talking, more quiet listening. The body is descending; the practice can match it.
A relational thread
The autumn often arrives with old memories. If a quiet sadness has been moving through, name it once to someone who will receive it. The naming is half the work.
A seasonal gift
Pass this letter to a friend who has been carrying something heavier than they say. The season often gives the patient permission to feel what summer asked them to set aside.
