A note for Cold Dew
A short letter for 寒露, Cold Dew. The morning dew has turned cool enough that it carries a hint of frost in it.
The dew turns cold; the wild geese begin to gather and head south.
Sparrows enter the great water and become clams, the old books say.
The chrysanthemums show their yellow now, late and patient.
The lungs feel the season clearly. The skin knows it next.
A good time to keep the body warmer than the eye expects.
A reflective note
Cold Dew is the moment Lung qi has fully descended and Kidney is beginning to take over the work of holding warmth in the deep tissues. The patient who chills easily, or whose old respiratory pattern returns each fall, will notice it sharpening here. The work now is moistening the Lung while warming the Kidney quietly underneath.
A body practice for the season
Cover the neck and lower back. Warm ginger water on rising. Pear and almond stewed lightly in the evening. The body is shifting from descending to storing; the practice can favor the slower forms.
A relational thread
Cold Dew traditionally calls families to share warm food. The shared bowl matters as much as the formula does. If you have not eaten a slow meal with someone close in a while, this is the season for it.
A seasonal gift
Pass this letter to a patient who runs cold and whose autumn skin is beginning to dry. The lung-skin axis is where the formula will land most cleanly.
