Acorus: Biofilm Breaker: “The Magic Plant That Saved a Sick Emperor”

By Karen Ko

Edited by Andrew Miles

In an old book about herbs, there is a story of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. He got very sick with a high fever. He felt hopeless and thought he would not get better. Then a man named Zhou Dian sent a monk named Juexian with a special medicine. The emperor took it in the morning, and by evening, his fever went away. Day by day, he got stronger. Juexian said the secret ingredient was a plant called Acorus. Acorus helped heal the emperor because it helped to break down a germ castle within him which was protecting the germs. This plant also helps break down biofilm fortresses, which can make long illnesses hard to treat. And it can help grow new nerve cells, which is good for people who have been sick a long time. It helps destroy the hiding places for the germs, and strengthen the body so that it’s harder for these biofilms to regrow.
